Services Organisational Psychology does not
just have, for its focus, human individuals as its main subject of study, as
the discipline directs its attention upon systems processes as well as
organisational behaviour. However, clearly within its purview is individual
psychology, as well as the psychology of large and small groups, and of
social organisation. Whilst individuals do make up these groupings, it would
be inaccurate to state that organisations themselves have human egos,
although the metaphor of an egocentric organisation can be applied while
making a careful study of them. Information supplies the lifeblood of
organisations. Informed decision-making is wholly dependent upon right,
accurate, and reliable sources of information. Corrupted information can thus
destroy the very fabric of organisational functioning, if the problem is
endemic. Without reliable information, there would be confusion or chaos.
Truth, therefore, should be the watchword for all those involved in
organisational decision-making, and for those who, by their actions, shape
and define organisational culture and life. The implementation of major
information systems, within most large organisations, has brought about a
revolution in the way we all interact with each other. Today, various options
for communication are available, and clear decisions have to be made about
how best to manage those processes. For a number of years, the NHS was
aiming to implement a Care Records Service, at a cost of £12.7 billion.
Questions about that failed system implementation should be candidly answered
by the NHS authorities, with an honest undertaking to put right the management
errors that were made. Due consideration to how Principles in the Data
Protection Act should be adhered to, while recording, handling and
maintaining information, should exercise the minds of those in the NHS who
would still wish to share patient information. If it really is the case that
the Information Commissioner’s Office is unable to intervene to protect
patients, given that they cannot, apparently, deal with cases involving
medical opinions, then another practical solution must be found, in order to
maintain public confidence. |
In
a world in which defence and security have been the order of the day, for
thousands of years, it would require a fundamental shift in consciousness, in
a social paradigm that emphasizes difference, for all of humanity to place
care and welfare at the forefront of social activity. Yet the global crisis
which is now gripping us, following the onset of the pandemic and the war in
Ukraine, and the increasing threat from the climate emergency, has increased
the need for a radical transformation, and has brought about a situation
which must lead to a harmonizing redirection and rebalancing of our energies,
towards a state of social relations that focuses upon our psychological and
physical well-being. This has happened at a time when, globally, we are shifting
to renewable energy, while recognising the need to drastically reduce the
general movements of people, in the air, and on the surface of the planet.
Awareness and sensitivity towards mental health issues will enable this
psychological and social change to occur, in our communities, and in
different organisational contexts, and I am available to play a key role in
enabling such organisational development processes to be implemented, in
different settings, as well as focusing on organisational issues and
solutions in IT governance, client management, sales and customer service. Collective
consciousness of certain values would override the need for the inculcation
of rule-driven procedures, and would also lead to a qualitatively different
experience of organisational life. The shift from mainly rule-based
decision-making, to morally intelligent discrimination, with a less scripted
approach, would be a cultural change from management and sales processes that
are politically or security motivated, and which have characterised much
information and client management to date. With due care at the forefront of
consciousness, the actual quality of the experience of all users of
organisational services would be transformed, and the professional
satisfaction of the providers of those client services would be heightened. Consultancy Fees My professional time is available to
the NHS, and other organisations, on a per diem basis. My standard fee for
all consultancy work is £400.00 per day. This fee is negotiable for
fixed-term assignments lasting for 40 days or more, agreed in advance with
the client. I would be happy to perform a business development role, on a
fixed-term agreement, engaging with the customer base of client
organisations, looking to consolidate and increase revenues, as well as
expanding the number of clients, whilst also potentially making a specialist
contribution to organisational development through learning and development
initiatives. Stephen O. Ali B.Sc. (Hons) Psychology, M.Sc. Organisational Psychology Organisational Consultant Telephone: 01488 680774; Email: enquiries@rampsychology.co.uk; Twitter: @rampsychology |
